"I can't do much, but I can do this..."| What You Can Do Right Now

I Can’t Do Much, But I Can Do This
What can I do right now?
“I can’t do much, but I can do this,” said Lindsay Schultz, owner of The Spine Bookshop in Smyrna, Tennessee, in an interview I saw on the rare occasion I watched the news recently.
She was talking about how, with all the chaos happening in the U.S. right now, she was asking herself the same question I’ve heard from many of you: What can I do?
She is a bookseller. A purveyor of the written word and the First Amendment.
She is a shero.
She has a section in her bookshop where she literally gives away books that have appeared on banned book lists, ensuring people have access to these writings in accordance with the First Amendment.
This is what she could do.
This story resonated with me so much that I’m writing a blog about it nearly a month after seeing it because I’ve sat with it that long.
“I can’t do much, but I can do this” is probably the most powerful, the most American statement anyone can make.
We are a country made up of people with the kind of intestinal fortitude rarely seen elsewhere.
We are the children of immigrants. Some see these folks as less than. I see my ancestors as the tip of the sword—the ones who, at very young ages, had the courage to leave everything behind, cross an ocean in conditions worse than coach on Southwest, and come to America with little to no money in their pockets, knowing neither the language nor what awaited them.
When they arrived—some stayed in the cities where they entered. Some loaded up wagons and headed west, carving out an existence from nothing.
When the great wars came, the world looked to these people for support and assistance because they knew, in their guts, that we live NASA’s motto: Failure is not an option.
Since then, we seem to have forgotten ourselves, our roots, and who we really are.
It’s time to tap into our ancestral energy.
It’s time to remember who you are and what your passions are.
It’s time to honor the courage of your ancestors—or, if you are native to this land, to stand strong in the wisdom of your people.
I am Swiss, Italian, Norwegian, Irish, and a Scot. I LOVE inspiring people through my spiritual guidance, leaning into my Celtic, Nordic, and Italian backgrounds. I love creating balance and a safe place for people in the beauty of nature and chocolate.
I am the product of generations of sacrifice.
My ancestors came here to live in democracy, freedom, and prosperity—where everyone has a chance to be something greater than themselves.
I can’t do much, but I can do this.
-
I can lean into who I really am.
-
I can lean into my spirituality and keep talking—to inspire others to remember their own divinity.
-
I can lean into my nurturing nature and create healing spaces for others.
-
I can support my neighbors, just as my ancestors in Brooklyn did 100+ years ago.
-
I can raise up others' messages of hope—because I am a connector and a balancer.
I can’t do much, but I can do that.
Finding Your “I Can Do This”
The key is figuring out what your passion is—and doing that.
Why?
Because when we lean into what we love, we shift the energy.
A collective energy of fear is what got us here.
And as Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same kind of thinking we used to create them.”
The thinking that created all of this was fear.
They know if we are afraid, they will remain in power.
They are afraid of YOU.
They are afraid you will remember who you are and stop being afraid of them.
So, they flood every space where we’ve been conditioned to look for balance—with more fear.
But here’s the truth:
When you do things you love, you are in love, not fear.
When you do things you love, you contribute love and light to the collective, extinguishing fear.
All we have to do is tip the scales.
We are in the Age of Aquarius—the age of community, of lifting each other up. The Universe LITERALLY has our backs on this!
The chaos we see? It’s here to remind us that only we can choose to rise above it.
So, what is your “I can’t do much, but I can do this…”?
Here Are 3 Ways You Can Embrace This:
1⃣ Reconnect with your passion.
Not in terms of rebellion—but in terms of YOU. Before all of this, what made you happiest? What were you doing?
-
Cooking?
-
Gardening?
-
Writing?
-
Hanging out with friends?
-
Playing music?
-
Dancing?
✨ ACTION STEP: Do that.
2⃣ Be more conscious of where you spend your money.
Want to lift up your community? Redirect your money to local businesses.
Whether you’re hiring a coach like me or buying your weekly groceries—shop local.
And honestly, the argument that shopping locally will create suffering because big box stores might lay people off? That’s BS.
If more people shop locally, that means more jobs in local businesses for local people.
And let’s be real—most small businesses don’t have a shareholder mindset. They treat their employees and customers better.
✨ ACTION STEP: Start really being mindful of where you spend your money and look for local alternatives.
3⃣ Create a daily ritual to reconnect with yourself.
I do this every single day to set the energy of my day and remind myself:
-
I am not afraid of them.
-
They are afraid of me.
Meditation is a powerful way to reconnect with your Higher Self—the part of you that tells you the truth.
Our ego is just our inner child trying to keep us safe, but 99.9% of the time, it does so at our own expense.
When you reconnect with your Higher Self, you ground into **who you truly are—**a child of the Divine Source Energy.
✨ ACTION STEP: Start a morning meditation ritual. This can start at just 5 minutes of sitting quietly and breathing - inhale for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4 and hold for a count of 4 - repeat until you feel complete and then return to your normal pattern of breathing.. Do You Need to Protest?
Only if that calls to you.
Do you need to feel guilty if it doesn’t? Absolutely not.
We need all kinds of people to create the country we actually want to see.
